Hands On Bay Area believes that through discussion and issue education, volunteers become more engaged citizens. To this end, Hands On Bay Area offers a variety of programs to allow volunteers to learn about and discuss community issues.
TeamWorks: TeamWorks is Hands On Bay Area’s premiere service-learning program. The TeamWorks program brings together a group of 8-15 volunteers to participate in direct service, facilitated reflection and issues education over a series of 6-7 events. Social Change Book Clubs: Read and discuss books that address vital community issues with other Hands On Bay Area volunteers. Book clubs meet for an hour and a half each month for informal, friendly discussions. Hands On Bay Area book clubs are currently active in San Francisco and Mountain View. Click here to learn more.
Documentary Film Screenings: In partnership with ITVS, HOBA co-hosts documentary film screenings monthly in Oakland and San Francisco. Screenings are followed by panel discussions and audience Q & A. Gulf Coast Hurricane Relief Tool Kit: In partnership with Kaiser Permanente, HOBA is providing the following Toolkit which can be used to learn about past relief efforts and the latest news updates from the Gulf Coast, and all the information necessary to plan, recruit, and lead a service trip to the Gulf Coast for individuals, small groups or corporations.
